Pista de Pateros

The Municipality of Pateros is well-known for its tradition of fluvial procession (Pagoda sa Ilog) and Pandangguhan. The fiesta is mainly celebrated every second Sunday of February and based on liturgical calendaar, 29th of July. Some says that people living in Pateros are solely devoted to Sta Martha among the Southeast Asian countries, this is why other devotees from other parts of the Philippines went to Pateros for the festivity.

Since young, I always wanted to intervene at to any procession that I could restlessly walk even million miles. I'm not living in Pateros but I could say that I am a devotee of Sta. Martha too since I would love to join their fiesta. My Auntie brought me here since 2004 - 2009 to join their procession. This procession is different since they used to dance (Pandangguhan) while people are throwing foods at them. The Pasubo signifies Martha’s life to Jesus as she served during the Last Supper while the dancing signifies thanksgiving to Sta. Matha’s slaying crocodile that significantly impacted the livelihood in Pateros.

Now 2020, it is good to see that people in here kept their traditions as they are proud of it. Younger populations are getting into this as they will keep this belief lifetime from generation to generation.
